Comic Genius - The Laughter Day

Objectives:

The Laughter Day challenges participants to step out of their comfort zone and into their hidden reserves of creativity. As well as being a lot of fun, teamwork is a key outcome as only a team effort creates a good comedy sketch.

PHYSICAL MOVEMENT WARM UP

11.00 -
12.45:

SKETCH COMEDY WORKSHOP

17.00 -

OPTIONAL EXTRA: COCKTAIL HOUR WITH LIVE STAND UP

Description of events:

1) Physical Movement warm up

Yoga / Dance / Khai bo or any fitness session. Dissipate nerves by exercising the body and preparing the way for fluidity, freedom and fun.

2a) Theatrical Improvisation

Warm ups, relaxation exercises, gibberish, dance, movement, characters and games. Actors use these exercises to free up their emotions before a performance in order to make themselves light, centred and expressive. You too will learn physical theatre techniques as well as hysterical exercises and games to get your brain and body working in an absolutely spontaneous and joyous manner. Great for team bonding and plain old fun.

2b) Presentation skills from a stand-up comedian

Learn the inside secrets of a stand-up comic’s trade and apply it to your own work. Learn how to be original, true to your self and emotionally involved with the audience. Topics covered also include how to structure your presentation, the secrets of body language and how to finish on a memorable high.

Participants will not only listen during the session but will also try out the techniques in front of each other or in groups. Participants will have a clear opportunity to try out new skills, to show initiative and to take responsibility for their public speaking abilities.

(Ideal group size: 20)

3) Sketch Comedy

We will start with exercises and confidence building comedy games. Participants will be taught some of the ground rules of comedy before being split into groups and assigned specific characters and situations. Participants will then be given a period of supervised rehearsal after which each group will have to perform a short sketch to “ the audience. ” It is also possible to use the session to target and make light of (manageable) work related issues.

Optional Extra Module: “Cocktail Hour” with live Stand-up

The pressure is off now - you’ve done the hard work. Kick back with a drink from the hotel bar and watch your trainer or another comedian show you how it’s done with a short set. Opportunities for questions also.
